El Mazapan mas grande del mundo

A few months back, we wrote about Mazapán de la Rosa organizing an event to make the biggest mazapán in the world and reported that it would happen in Los Angeles.

Well, the event is finally happening, just a little further south in Santa Ana.

Enrique Michel, CEO of Mazapán de la Rosa, said they are working with the Federacion de Clubes Jaliscienses del Sur de California and with other entities to break the Guinness World Record.

They previously created a giant mazapán that weighed approximately eight tons and 250 grams. The new goal is 10 tons.

The mazapán manufacturer’s headquarters is located in Jalisco, and these types of events help raise awareness and funds for schools in the state.

Michel said he collaborates with organizations like the Jalisciense clubs, headed by Salvador Garcia, to collect funds in Los Angeles and renovate schools in Jalisco. Each club represents a different municipality in the Mexican state.

“We invite other business owners and go with the parent associations, the school principal, municipal president and we create seed capital to fix what we can,” Michel said. “With a school in good condition, you can work better.”

Some of the schools they have helped are in Chapala, Santa Cruz de la Soledad, Quila in the municipality of Tecolotlan, Ameca in the former Hacienda el Cabezon, Santa Maria de Los Angeles in the north of Jalisco, Vista Hermosa in the municipality of Zacualco, Tamazula.

They also have an online learning program called  “Educacion a Distancia”  in collaboration with the University of Guadalajara, The Tecnológico de Monterrey and Siglo XXI University.

“For migrants who couldn’t finish high school, they can do it online,” Michel said. “They can also study in college online.”

The biggest mazapán is happening on this weekend from October 25-27 at 20 Civic Center Plaza. The event will include food vendors, mariachi and of course, mazapán.
