Labor Community Services, a nonprofit organization that usually distributes food every Tuesday in Mission Hills, expanded their operations this week to help families impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires.

Along with other organizations, they came together  on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the LiUNA Laborers location in Mission Hills. While firefighters work tirelessly to combat the Pacific Palisades Fire and the Eaton Canyon Fire in Pasadena and Altadena, the economic toll of the wildfires is being experienced across the county and will continue to affect many families for months ahead.

“The devastation Los Angeles is facing has not been in the region since the Northridge Earthquake struck over 30 years ago. Our families will need our help for the foreseeable future and Labor Community Services is dedicated to being there for them for as long as we are needed,” said Norma López, executive director for Labor Community Services.

Since the wildfires erupted on January 7, they have consumed over 40,000 acres. The Palisades Fire, covering more than 23,000 acres, is 17% contained, while the Eaton Canyon fire has burned more than 14,000 acres in Altadena and Pasadena and is 35% contained. As of Monday, January 13, at least 24 people have lost their lives, and more than 12,000 homes, businesses, schools and other structures have been destroyed.
