Robert Garcia is a retired Mexican-American professional boxer who competed in the Lightweight division and is currently regarded as one of the best trainers in boxing.

Robert Garcia, the former International Boxing Federation (IBF) Super Featherweight World Champion and recipient of the 2024 Ring Magazine Trainer of the Year award, is now sharing his expertise with the youth with his own Robert Garcia Boxing Academy (RGBA) in  Moreno Valley.

On Saturday, March 8th, the academy celebrates its grand opening with an all-day event featuring an open house with live music, food, drinks and guided tours of the gym. Attendees will also have the chance to meet and greet Garcia as well as other world-class boxing legends.

Garcia shared with CALÓ News that his inspiration for opening his own academy stemmed from training young kids and helping them transition from amateurs to professional boxers. He also emphasized that the academy's mission is to keep kids out of trouble and provide them with a positive path forward.

“I want them to feel at home. I want every kid, from whichever city, from whichever side of the town, to come train at the academy. When I started in Oxnard, I was getting kids from different sides of town, even though they were maybe gang-related enemies, but in the gym everybody was the same family,” said Garcia. “So I want to do the same thing here in Moreno Valley.”

Starting next week, from Monday to Thursday, with open sessions on Fridays, RGBA will start offering the program to the youth of Moreno Valley. “At Robert Garcia Boxing Academy, we are committed to growing beyond borders, expanding our training programs worldwide and continuing to shape the next generation of champions. My goal is to bring world-class coaching to fighters everywhere, helping them build successful careers inside and outside the ring. We’ve produced champions, and we will keep doing it—one fighter at a time, one victory at a time,” said Garcia.

Led by a team of experienced coaches, the academy focuses on discipline, respect and hard work. Throughout the years, it has produced numerous champions and remains dedicated to inspiring the next generation of boxers.

“Moreno Valley is proud and excited to soon welcome RGBA, a place where future champions can emerge and our community can fully embrace the sport of boxing. Get ready, Moreno Valley—great things are on the horizon!” said Moreno Valley Mayor Ulises Cabrera.
