Scholarships for SELA high school seniors available

The City of Vernon is accepting applications through March 27 for the 2025 Vernon CommUNITY Fund (VCF) Scholarship Program. 

This annual scholarship opportunity supports high school seniors in the Southeast Los Angeles (SELA) County region, including Vernon, Maywood, Bell, Huntington Park, Commerce, Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles, as they pursue higher education and vocational training.

Since 2019, Vernon has awarded $170,000 in scholarships and, this year, at least $50,000 in scholarship funds will be available to qualified students who apply.

The VCF Scholarship Program is open to graduating high school seniors who:

• Plan to enroll full-time in a vocational/trade school, two-year community college, or four-year college or university

• Attend school or reside in the Vernon area (including Vernon, Maywood, Bell, Huntington Park, Commerce, Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles)

• Demonstrate strong leadership skills, responsibility, and community involvement

• Are active in extracurricular activities, employment or internships

• Are not a City of Vernon employee or an immediate family member of a City of Vernon official or employee 

Students meeting the eligibility criteria are encouraged to submit their applications by 5:00 p.m. on March 27, 2025. Scholarship recipients will be announced in May 2025. For more information and to download the 2025 VCF Scholarship Application, visit: www.cityofvernon.org/communityfund.
