Descanso restaurant celebrates holiday season with pozole

Descanso Restaurant in Costa Mesa is spreading holiday cheer through its Pozole for a Cause initiative, aimed at supporting local underserved communities and families this season.

“We’re committed to being a good neighbor in our community, and Pozole for a Cause invites our guests to join us in doing exactly that,” said Rob Arellano, owner of Descanso. “Serving pozole during the holidays always brings back cherished childhood memories of family, warmth, and togetherness. It’s more than just a dish—it’s a symbol of celebration and connection. This year, we’re honored to share that tradition with our community while giving back to those in need, spreading the same love and care that goes into every bowl of our pozole.”

With 7,322 individuals experiencing homelessness and over 3,000 children diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses annually in Orange County, according to the 2024 Point in Time Count, this initiative offers an opportunity for individuals to give back during the season of giving. 

While eating Descanso’s popular 32 ounce family-style pozole community members will have the opportunity to make a direct impact on three local charities: Miracles for Kids, Trellis – Love Costa Mesa and Share Ourselves. 

From December 1 through December 31, a portion of the proceeds from every order will go directly to these organizations, which are working tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of underserved individuals and families in Orange County.

Descanso’s pozole rojo is made with slow-simmered red chile broth, guajillo and ancho chiles, tender braised pork shoulder, and hominy, served alongside corn tortilla chips, sliced onions, sliced radishes, shredded lettuce, limes, oregano and volcano salsa for an extra kick.
