On February 21st, Julian Torres, the first singer of the mariachi genre to be signed to Death Row Records, hosted an in-store event at Snoop Dogg’s clothing store in Inglewood to celebrate the release of his limited edition vinyl.

Family, friends and fans gathered together to show support for his new production titled “Julián Torres y Mariachi Cenzontle,” which is a 6-song EP that is now available on all digital platforms and in physical form at Snoop Dogg’s clothing store. His newest project was produced by Fredwreck who has worked with Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Britney Spears and many more.

Fredwreck was the one who discovered Torres singing “Amor Eterno” outside the Crypto.com Arena during a tribute to Kobe Bryant. Two years later he offered to record him via Instagram. Farid Karam Nassar, better known by his stage name Fredwreck, is a Grammy Award-winning American hip hop recording artist, DJ and record producer.

The event featured a performance from Torres along with Mariachi Cenzontle, pictures, autographs, food and raffles. Torres, who was born and raised in Hawthorne, has a big support system from his family and also from the community.

Torres' sister told CALÓ News that his brother's accomplishments mean a lot to the Latino community. “Just like any musician, artist, entrepreneur or any other person in the community as long as you're doing what you love, and enjoying what you are doing, and you keep going at it, not caring who is looking, and not caring about anything except for your perseverance and the love for your own craft, there is no doubt you will be able to accomplish anything,” Cristina Torres said.

Before Torres performed “Volver Volver” and “Mi Amigo El Sargento,” he made sure to give a special shout out to his mother, Esmeralda Torres, who couldn't hide her proud mother moment with her son. “My son’s goals mean a lot to our community, and I really appreciate that the Latino community is supporting my son because he has dreamed of all of this and it’s all coming true,” she said. “Since he was a kid, he and I would talk about this big dream, and I would always tell him that he would accomplish it. I would tell him whatever you're dreaming of, you're going to obtain.”

Workers at Tacos a Cabron, a food stand in East Los Angeles, also attended the event. Employee Francisco Arizpe told CALÓ News that they came down to see their dearest friend Julian Torres, who is a great musician and artist. “Torres is very recognized and loved by [his] people. He is also making a difference in Latin music. We will keep admiring him and showing our support,” he said.

Believe it or not, Torres is making history and opening doors for mariachi artists and the Latino community. Recently, Torres has been featured on ESPN, Telemundo, KCAL, L.A Times, Spectrum, Univision Televisa 24/7, Visión Latina, Despierta América and many podcasts like True Hustle, Foocommunity, among some great radio coverage like Buena Vibra, La Vale, The Cruz Show, and many others.

Not only is Torres a singer and a producer, but he is also a composer and entertainer. Torres has traveled and performed in many prestigious venues both in the US and abroad, across many stages such as Disneyland, Downtown Disney, Dodger Stadium, Sábado Gigante, Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Fox Performing Arts Theater, Ford Amphitheater, Teatro Metropolitan, CDMX and for our military troops overseas in Okinawa, Japan.

In the past, Snoop Dogg has shown his love and appreciation for Mexican culture. It’s a no-brainer that Torres would love to work with his padrino Snoop Dogg. “It would be a dream come true, and it would be something very special,” Torres said.
