Compton College and St. John’s Community Health Center will continue their partnership to bring a 24/7 health facility on the community college’s campus, servicing the students, staff and neighboring communities.

Measure CC, a joint effort between Compton College and St. John’s, passed by over 68% of the vote on Election Day, raising $150 million to expand health and education for residents of the Compton Community College District.

Compton College plans to make repairs to the campus, build additional educational buildings for students, and open a 24/7 urgent care and community health center open to students, faculty and the surrounding community, run by St. John’s.

“We are excited for Compton, Lynwood, Paramount and Willowbrook residents to see their tax dollars working efficiently to make their community stronger,” Jim Mangia, president and CEO of St. John’s Community Health, said. “The new health care facilities at Compton College will inevitably save lives by offering much-needed care for people with acute, chronic and potential health issues who currently don’t have reliable access to a doctor.”

St. Johns, a network of 24 community health centers and 4 mobile clinics providing free and low-cost health care, will design, open and run the $14.5 million health center. X-ray, ultrasound and mammogram technology; primary medical, behavioral and dental care will all be available at the center. Once at full capacity, the health center is expected to serve 40,000 to 50,000 patients annually.

Construction for the 12,000-square-foot building is expected to start in 2025 and open within two years.

“This expansion is part of the continuing work towards a world where everyone can access the health care they need,” Mangia said. “We are honored to continue serving our community.”
